Mark Twain Lake is the largest body of water in north Missouri, dedicated in 1984, the 18,600-acre lake sits amid the farmland of northeast Missouri, with much of the shoreline in rolling hills and rock bluffs. As a young lake, Mark Twain provides excellent angling for many species, bass and crappie in particular. The marinas, boat ramps and swimming beaches are popular places, as are the more than 450 campsites in Corps of Engineers public-use areas and Mark Twain State Park. A major water park and resort, country music shows, shopping, lodging and more are waiting at The Landing, Paris, Monroe City, Center and Perry. A Corps visitor center is located at the dam.
